Chadene Brooks | Academics and Community Service

A passionate reader, Chadene Brooks, 18, shone academically at a young age when she was placed into her school’s Goal Accelerated Programme in Year 9, passing six CXCs (including one at Advanced Level) with excellent grades two years earlier than most school students. Joining the JGHS book club, Chadene participated in the Battle of the Books competition and won the Reading Challenge for Year 7. In Year 8 she entered another reading competition and again took away the top spot.

Chadene was a prefect and, as a smart and organised team player, was instrumental in raising CI$800 for the Breast Cancer Foundation. She was also a Pupil Leadership Team representative for her tutorial group and represented the school at a conference at the George Town Public Library and also the Child Month conference.

Honing skills that will be useful in her professional career, Chadene became involved in debating and took part in a week-long debating camp in Canada, sponsored by the Rotary Club. As a member of the JGHS debate team, Chadene has come first, second and third in the Conyers Debating competition over the years. She was also the President of the JGHS Business Club and with her leadership, the organisation was able to raise funds for global charities. In this position she also represented her school and country at the Future Business Leaders Conference of America.

She was also a member of the JGHS Key Club, where she read to younger children, helped with the Kiwani bookmobile and repainted a house for a needy family.

A keen Church member, she created Bible lessons for the Children’s Ministry at the Church of God.

Chadene has set her career aspirations high as she wants to become a lawyer. With her talents and skills, that goal is well within her reach.
