Elihandro, 17, combines his outstanding athletic skills with his passion for community involvement and excellent academic achievements to produce a very worthy Proud of Them recipient. Academically, he shone at high school, gaining the top student award, and then 10 CXC subjects, achieving the highest GPA across the Dual Enrollment Programme. He graduated with high honours and was awarded the Business Studies award at graduation.
At high school, Elihandro was Deputy Head Boy, a prefect, Student Council Executive member and a peer mentor.
A leader on the basketball court, Elihandro represented the Cayman Islands in Tampa at 15, and helped his team get to the playoffs in the U-19 basketball league. Elihandro also represented his school in swimming, shot put, discus and cross country.
A well-rounded individual, Elihandro is an outstanding community leader and peer educator, participating in initiatives such as the Cayman Islands Youth Assembly, where he was Director of Research, as well as participating as an interviewer on the Youthflex Radio show, where he was described as an outstanding team member. He graduated from the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Programme and represented Cayman at the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC and New York, and also three times in Orlando, Florida at the Key Club District Convention, where he was awarded the Distinguished Vice President award and Governor's Project award.
Elihandro is also an accomplished cook, having won the junior cook-off competition and becoming runner up in the senior division.
Elihandro is a prolific community service volunteer, having gained an impressive 680 hours of community service in total for a wide range of organisations. In addition, he has participated in church activities such as Pathfinder, Child Speaker Programme for children's month, and he was also the speaker at the Children's breakfast for the Circle of Love organisation.
